YES scheme a huge success
Y8 & 9 students make the most of this great opportunity
In June eight Y8 and Y9 students attended the YES Scheme. The Scheme used core skills of firefighting to develop and build confidence and self-esteem and encourage teamwork and leadership.
The course was led by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and the week-long experience gave them strategies of how to engage with friends, family, school and their community and encourage a positive outlook for their own future. They were taught various skills including; hose running, parading and search techniques and concluded with a Passing Out Parade, attended by family/carers/school staff. We were all very proud to witness the students demonstrating the skills they had learnt during the week and to see presentations and photo opportunities that will hold memories that will last a lifetime.
Massive thanks to Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service for providing this wonderful experience and to Julie Woods, our Family Liaison and Support worker, for organising things from our end.
