BCS learn code breaking with GCHQ

Y10 students show the advantage of learning a second language

GCHQ, a branch of Mi5, invited us to take part in a nationwide event to show students how languages can be used in the workplace. Our students needed to use their language skills to decode a message in multiple languages (including Arabic and Korean!) and report back in French and Spanish to stop a fictional crime from taking place.

Our fabulous Y10s came 2nd out of all the schools who took part. BCS got a special mention from the linguists at GCHQ to say how brilliant their speaking skills are!

The students below have worked super hard this week in preparation for this event and we are incredibly proud of them.

  • Amelie Graham
  • Leann Johnston
  • Grace Hoodith
  • Ethan Gould
  • Will Jones
  • Arthur Rhodes
  • Finn Hornsey Saunders
  • Tom Crispin
  • Sam McGill
  • Jake Edwards
  • Gundega Plegere
  • Natalie Morton

Thank you also to our wonderful language teachers.
